The Pasco County Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is planning to develop and enhance its network of bicycle and pedestrian facilities, with a focus on user safety. This initiative includes finalizing an Active Transportation Plan and continuing non-motorized traffic counts. The project involves implementing the Active Transportation Plan, evaluating trail crossings, coordinating on regional projects, and identifying hazardous walking conditions near schools and high-traffic areas. Additionally, there are plans to develop educational programs, a bike map, and a pilot study to assess non-motorized transportation infrastructure and safety within a two-mile radius of middle schools. The MPO is also supporting planning for emerging transportation technologies. This work is currently under review and planned for implementation between July 2024 and June 2028. The scope includes planning, data collection, and program development, which will likely involve site assessments, data analysis, and the creation of various planning documents and educational materials. Local contractors, suppliers, and service providers in areas such as engineering, planning, data collection, and potentially landscaping and signage could find opportunities. Engaging early is advantageous as plans and specific project needs are still being defined.
