Northwest Florida recorded 638 new business filings the week of August 30 to September 5, up 39 from the week before and the first weekly gain after a flat stretch.

Professional services led the region this week with 100 filings, up 37 from 63 the week before. That is a 58.7% jump and the clearest single sector signal in the pack. Consulting and interiors both show up among the fastest rising words in new business names, which lines up with a wave of small professional and design firms forming.

Escambia County jumped to 140 filings, up 49 from 91, a 53.8% gain that moved it from fourth to first in the region. Pensacola drove most of it, climbing to 138 from 90. Construction and cleaning both appear in the rising name words, so the surge carries a building and services flavor.

The gain was not even across the region. Walton County fell to 49 from 64, down 23.4%, and Santa Rosa Beach dropped to 28 from 39, down 28.2%. The pullback sits in the Emerald Coast vacation rental corridor, and short term rental holdings fell with it, down to 9 from 16.

Health care rose to 31 from 25, up 24%, and finance and insurance rose to 24 from 16, up 50%. Real estate and rental and leasing fell to 48 from 63, down 23.8%. The mix is rotating toward services and away from holding entities.
