REIMBURSEMENT TO DTPW FOR THE PURCHASE OF 15 BUSES
Transportation Cmte · 2026-06-09 · resolution
This legislative item, File Number 260794, concerns a resolution authorizing the use of Charter County Transportation Surtax Bond Program funds in the amount of $3,896,702.00 to reimburse the Miami-Dade Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) operating fund. This reimbursement is for a payment made to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) related to the depreciated value and unauthorized mileage of 15 diesel-powered buses. These buses were originally purchased for the discontinued I-95 Express Bus Service routes, which were taken out of service in March 2020 due to decreased ridership and operator shortages. The buses were redeployed to other routes, which was inconsistent with FDOT grant requirements. The item was introduced on 4/30/2026 and was withdrawn by the Transportation Committee on 6/9/2026. The payment to FDOT was remitted on January 12, 2026. The project was added to the People’s Transportation Plan in July 2026. The total purchase cost for these 15 buses was $8,139,630, funded through FDOT Grant G0350.
