REIMBURSEMENT TO DTPW FOR THE PURCHASE OF 15 BUSES
Transportation Cmte · 2026-06-09 · resolution
This legislative item, File Number 260794, concerns a resolution to authorize the use of Charter County Transportation Surtax Bond Program funds totaling $3,896,702.00. These funds are intended to reimburse the Miami-Dade Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) operating fund for a payment made to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). The payment covers the depreciated value and unauthorized mileage associated with 15 diesel-powered buses originally purchased for the discontinued I-95 Express Bus Service routes. The buses were acquired under Contract No. L1168501B1, funded through FDOT Grant G0350, and approved by the Board via Resolution No. R-936-16. The I-95 Express Bus Service routes were discontinued in March 2020 due to decreased ridership during the COVID-19 pandemic and bus operator shortages. The buses were subsequently redeployed to other routes. FDOT requested reimbursement in September 2024, and DTPW made the payment to FDOT on January 12, 2026. The item was introduced on April 30, 2026, and was withdrawn from the Transportation Committee on June 9, 2026. The project was added to the People's Transportation Plan in July 2026. The scope is countywide, with discontinued routes primarily serving Districts 3 and 5.
