The Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council (TBRPC) is conducting a study on the potential future land uses around the planned Suncoast Parkway Extension 2 in Citrus County. This extension will add three miles of a four-lane toll road, connecting to US 98 in Hernando County and extending to County Road 486 in Lecanto, Citrus County. Three interchanges are planned at Cardinal Street, State Road 44, and County Road 486. The study is currently under review, having been commissioned by the Citrus County Board of County Commissioners with grant funding from the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity. This project is expected to influence future development patterns, particularly at the proposed interchanges. While the construction of the parkway itself will create short-term jobs, the study aims to identify opportunities for new commercial and industrial development. This early stage presents an opportunity for contractors, suppliers, and service providers to engage with the planning process, as recommendations for future land use and development will be made.
