The City of Melbourne is reviewing its Annual Action Plan for Fiscal Year 2026, which includes strategies for coordinating with housing providers and health and service agencies. This plan involves partnerships with the Melbourne Housing Authority (MHA) to address affordable housing needs. The MHA has approved three new activities: Mixed Finance Modernization or Development, Conversion of Public Housing to Tenant-Based Assistance, and Units with approved vacancies for modernization. The city will also administer Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding to prevent homelessness. This includes support for youth aging out of foster care through WAYS for Life, Inc., and a Homeowner Housing Rehabilitation Program to help low- and moderate-income residents bring their homes up to code. The Brevard Homeless Coalition (BHC) acts as the lead agency for the Continuum of Care, coordinating services for those at risk of or experiencing homelessness. This ongoing planning and coordination process could lead to future construction, rehabilitation, and service provision opportunities. Local contractors, suppliers, and service providers are encouraged to engage early to understand the scope and timing of these initiatives as plans develop.
