About the data

Good data deserves a paper trail. Here is exactly where our numbers come from, how often they update, how we classify them, and what you do and do not get. No black boxes.

Where the data comes from

Every business in NewBizAlert is a real, public business-registration filing. In Florida, that source is the Division of Corporations, better known as Sunbiz, the official state registry where a company is born the moment it files. We do not buy lists, scrape directories, or stitch together third-party guesses. We go to the system of record.

How often it updates

Daily. Our pipeline pulls the newest filings from the state every day, so the businesses you see are days old, not months old. Because filings can be amended or posted late, the most recent complete month can keep settling for a little while after it ends. We always show the real current count, never a projection.

How we classify each filing

The raw state record tells you a business exists. It does not tidily tell you that the business is a roofing company, a med spa, or a law firm. So we classify. A rules-based classifier reads the company name and the filing details and assigns an industry and a county. When that first pass cannot tell (and a chunk of filings genuinely start out ambiguous), an AI reclassifier takes a second look and fills the gap, so far fewer businesses land in a vague “unclassified” pile. The result is a clean, filterable industry and geography on top of the official record.

What each lead actually contains

Here is the honest part most data vendors skip. State business registries license business identity and the mailing address. They do not license email addresses or phone numbers. So a NewBizAlert lead is the business name, its registered mailing address, the filing date, the entity type, and the industry and county we classify. It is not a contact database, and we will never pretend it is one.

That mailing-address focus is also why direct mail works so well here. A brand-new business has a verified physical address and almost no competing outreach yet. A postcard lands before the inbox-blasters even know the company exists.

Provenance and our quality process

Provenance matters, so we keep it simple and traceable: official state filing in, classified record out, with the source always the public registry. Our quality checks run on the way through. We drop future-dated filer-error records, suppress the catch-all unclassified bucket from our published “top industry” lists so a vague label never leads a report, and reconcile the breakdowns on every report against the true totals (not a sample) so the parts always add up to the whole. When a number looks off, we trust the state record over a tidy story.

Reports are produced by NewBizAlert by Success Driven Media. If you spot something that does not look right, tell us on the contact page and we will dig in.
