Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners is considering a resolution to approve a Preferential Berthing Rights Agreement between the County and Classica Cruise Operator Ltd. d/b/a Margaritaville at Sea. The agreement is for the use of Cruise Terminal C and is anticipated to generate a positive fiscal impact of $23,148,594.00 for the County over a five-year term, commencing January 9, 2027, through April 30, 2031, with two optional five-year renewal terms. The agreement is expected to facilitate approximately one million passenger movements. Commissioner Milan Orbis expressed appreciation for the revenue and the addition of another cruise line, while also inquiring about the advisability of long-term agreements with new lines. Mr. Wong of the Port explained the significant barriers to entry in the cruise industry and confirmed the agreement's advisability, noting it has a five-year term with two five-year renewal options and will operate out of Terminal C. Commissioner Orbis had no hesitation regarding granting berthing rights to a new cruise line. The agreement includes incentives for off-peak utilization, terminal efficiency, and cruise demand promotion. Margaritaville at Sea, backed by Sycamore Partners, is expanding its fleet and homeporting in Miami starting January 2027 with three vessels.
