Miami-Dade County Commission ratified an emergency contract for work at the Alexander Orr Water Treatment Plant. The contract, No. EC-298173, was awarded to Industrial Divers Corp. Inc. for $268,298.00 to address an underwater obstruction in the common channel supplying Contact Basin #4. The obstruction, a buildup of calcium carbonate, restricted water flow and threatened the plant's ability to meet water quality standards. Divers were required to inspect and clear the blockage without taking additional basins offline. The scope of work expanded due to additional buildup discovered during the initial cleaning. The contract was ratified to ensure normal plant operations, regulatory compliance, and public health.
