Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners amended Resolution No. 260749 to authorize an additional expenditure of $24,980,000 for Contract No. RFP-01071, the Bus Passenger Shelter Program. This brings the total modified amount to $54,944,885. The funds will be used to install 500 additional bus passenger shelters with illumination systems and trash receptacles within the Unincorporated Municipal Service Area (UMSA). This initiative aims to increase shelter coverage from approximately 67% to 89% of UMSA bus stops, improving rider comfort, safety, and accessibility, and supporting the County's Extreme Heat Action Plan. The vendor, Outfront Media Group, LLC, will continue the work, ensuring consistent design and reducing maintenance costs. Public comment highlighted community input emphasizing the need for greater shelter coverage and positive feedback on existing shelters regarding illumination and trash receptacles.
