Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners adopted Resolution R-480-26, ratifying a contract with Hitachi Rail STS USA for $6,729,260.00 to purchase and overhaul 10 rail vehicle trucks for the Department of Transportation and Public Works. The trucks are needed to replace components damaged in accidents and derailments and to complete six-year overhauls, ensuring fleet reliability and safe operations. The contract was awarded under Prequalification Pool No. FB-01645P, Rail Parts and Services Pool, via an Invitation to Quote (ITQ) process. Only one bid was received due to OEM requirements and system compatibility constraints. Commissioner Bermudez expressed concern about the delay in presenting the contract for ratification, which was awarded in December 2023 but presented in June 2026. DTPW cited management transition as the reason for the delay and is implementing process improvements.
