CONTRACT AWARD TO LEGO CONSTRUCTION

Board of County Commissioners · 2026-06-02 · resolution

Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners adopted a resolution approving a contract award to LEGO Construction Co. for the Miami International Airport (MIA) Terminal Wide Re-roofing and Lightning System Upgrades Project (No. AA078A). The project involves replacing approximately 410,000 square feet of roofing across the North, Central, and South Terminals, upgrading the lightning protection system, and installing a Solar Photovoltaic (PV) system. The contract amount is not to exceed $125,703,562.22, with a total contract period of 1,460 consecutive calendar days. Commissioner Milian Orbis inquired about solar panels, and Mr. Cutie confirmed their inclusion, noting the project's phased approach over four years and potential expansion to parking garages. The project aims to enhance infrastructure, support passenger demand, and strengthen MIA's role as a leading airport. LEGO Construction Co. was determined to be qualified for the award, with their base bid being within an acceptable range of the engineer's estimate. The contract includes a 10 percent contingency, an Inspector's General Fee, and two dedicated allowance accounts for various repairs and temporary emergency repairs. The project will adhere to sustainable building practices and the Buy American Iron and Steel Procurement Program.
