CREATE ADVISORY BOARD TO COUNTY COMMISSION ON SOLID WASTE
Board of County Commissioners · 2026-06-02 · ordinance
Miami-Dade County has established a Solid Waste Advisory Board through Ordinance 260132. This board will advise the County Commission on long-term solid waste management strategies, including new technologies, financial stability, cost maintenance, CDMP level of service compliance, innovative disposal solutions, and improving reuse/recycling. The board will consist of 15 voting members with relevant experience in finance, solid waste management, environmental compliance, and related fields. Members cannot be vendors or contractors of Miami-Dade County. The board will sunset five years after its establishment unless extended. The ordinance was introduced on January 23, 2026, adopted on first reading on February 18, 2026, deferred on April 15, 2026, forwarded with a favorable recommendation on May 13, 2026, and amended on June 2, 2026. The final adopted version is referenced in Legislative File No. 261113. The creation of this board is a response to challenges including the inoperability of the Resources Recovery Facility (RRF) since a fire on February 12, 2023, projected landfill capacity issues, and the need to maintain concurrency requirements for development permits.
