CREATE ADVISORY BOARD TO COUNTY COMMISSION ON SOLID WASTE

Board of County Commissioners · 2026-06-02 · ordinance

Miami-Dade County has established a Solid Waste Advisory Board through Ordinance 260132. This board will advise the Board of County Commissioners on developing long-term, financially and environmentally sustainable solid waste management strategies. The board will consist of 15 voting members with expertise in areas such as finance, solid waste management, renewable energy, recycling, and environmental compliance. Members cannot be employees of vendors, suppliers, contractors, or service providers to Miami-Dade County. The board is intended to help address challenges including landfill capacity issues and the loss of waste reduction capabilities following a fire at the Resources Recovery Facility (RRF). The ordinance includes a sunset provision, meaning the board will be dismissed five years after its establishment unless extended. The final version was adopted on June 2, 2026, following a public hearing where no one spoke, and a favorable recommendation from the Infrastructure, Innovation & Technology Committee.
