CREATE ADVISORY BOARD TO COUNTY COMMISSION ON SOLID WASTE
Board of County Commissioners · 2026-06-02 · ordinance
Miami-Dade County has established a Solid Waste Advisory Board through Ordinance 260132. This board will advise the Board of County Commissioners on developing and implementing long-term, financially and environmentally sustainable solid waste management strategies. The board will consist of 15 voting members with relevant experience in areas such as finance, solid waste management, renewable energy, recycling, and environmental compliance. Members cannot be employees of vendors, suppliers, contractors, or service providers to Miami-Dade County. The board is intended to help address challenges arising from the inoperability of the Resources Recovery Facility (RRF) since a fire in February 2023, which has compressed landfill capacity timelines and jeopardized concurrency requirements for development permits. The advisory board will sunset five years after its establishment unless extended. The ordinance was adopted on first reading on 2/18/2026, deferred on 4/15/2026, forwarded with a favorable recommendation on 5/13/2026, and amended on 6/2/2026.
