CREATE ADVISORY BOARD TO COUNTY COMMISSION ON SOLID WASTE

Board of County Commissioners · 2026-06-02 · ordinance

Miami-Dade County has established a Solid Waste Advisory Board through Ordinance 260132. This board will advise the Board of County Commissioners on developing and implementing long-term, financially and environmentally sustainable solid waste management strategies. The board will consist of 15 voting members with diverse expertise in finance, solid waste management, environmental compliance, and related fields. Members cannot be vendors or contractors of Miami-Dade County. The board is intended to address challenges arising from the inoperability of the Resources Recovery Facility (RRF) since a fire in February 2023, which has compressed landfill capacity timelines and jeopardized concurrency requirements for development permits. The advisory board is established for five years unless extended. The ordinance was adopted on first reading on February 18, 2026, deferred on April 15, 2026, forwarded with a favorable recommendation on May 13, 2026, and amended on June 2, 2026.
