CREATE ADVISORY BOARD TO COUNTY COMMISSION ON SOLID WASTE

Board of County Commissioners · 2026-06-02 · ordinance

Miami-Dade County has established a Solid Waste Advisory Board through Ordinance 260132. This board will consist of 15 voting members with expertise in solid waste management, finance, environmental compliance, and related fields. Its purpose is to advise the Board of County Commissioners on developing long-term, sustainable solid waste management strategies, including identifying new technologies, managing costs, and improving recycling and diversion efforts. The board is intended to address challenges arising from the inoperability of the Resources Recovery Facility (RRF) and the declining capacity of county landfills. The ordinance was amended and forwarded with a favorable recommendation by the Infrastructure, Innovation & Technology Committee on May 13, 2026, and amended by the Board of County Commissioners on June 2, 2026. The board will sunset five years after its establishment unless extended.
