Miami-Dade County has established a Solid Waste Advisory Board through Ordinance 260132. This board will consist of 15 voting members with expertise in solid waste management, finance, environmental compliance, and related fields. Its purpose is to advise the Board of County Commissioners on developing long-term, sustainable solid waste management strategies, addressing challenges such as landfill capacity and the impact of the Resources Recovery Facility fire. The board will operate for five years unless extended. During a public hearing before the Infrastructure, Innovation & Technology Committee on May 13, 2026, no members of the public spoke. Commissioner Cohen Higgins expressed concerns about potential delays in decision-making and inquired about the board's meeting timeline, which Senator Garcia clarified was for advisory purposes and not to address incinerator matters. The ordinance was amended and forwarded with a favorable recommendation.
