Miami-Dade County has established a Solid Waste Advisory Board through Ordinance 260132. This board will advise the Board of County Commissioners on developing long-term, financially and environmentally sustainable solid waste management strategies. The board will consist of 15 voting members with relevant experience in finance, solid waste management, environmental compliance, and related fields. Members cannot be employees of vendors or contractors of Miami-Dade County. The board is intended to help address challenges such as landfill capacity issues and the need for a new waste-to-energy facility. The ordinance was adopted on first reading on February 18, 2026, deferred on April 15, 2026, and amended and forwarded with a favorable recommendation on May 13, 2026, before being amended on June 2, 2026. The board will sunset five years after its establishment unless extended.
