HOLE IN THE DOUGHNUT CONVEYANCE

Board of County Commissioners · 2026-06-02 · resolution

Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners approved the conveyance of 32 acres of vacant county-owned land adjacent to the Homestead Air Reserve Base to the United States of America, acting through the Department of the Air Force. The land, identified by portions of Folio Nos. 30-7901-000-0090, 30-7901-000-0210, and 30-7901-000-0220, will be used for military purposes to support national defense interests. The conveyance is at no cost, and provisions regarding appraisals were waived. The decision was approved by an 11-0 vote on June 2, 2026. Public comment during the Intergovernmental and Economic Impact Committee meeting on May 13, 2026, involved Commissioner Cohen Higgins seeking clarification on the conveyance process and District Commissioner support, which was provided by Commissioner Regalado, who confirmed support from the District Commissioner and Congressman Carlos Giménez. The land was originally transferred to the County from the U.S. Government at no cost and is now being reconveyed for military operations. Water main extensions will be required, and the Air Force must obtain easements.
