Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners adopted Resolution R-545-26, approving the Peace & Prosperity Plan for Fiscal Year 2025-2026. The plan has a total budget of $2,888,942.00, funded by $2,800,000.00 from the Anti-Gun Violence and Prosperity Initiatives Trust Fund and $88,942.00 in carryover funds from FY 2023-24 and FY 2024-25. The resolution authorizes the County Mayor or designee to expend these funds, select an organization to manage the Safe in the 305 Grants Program (not to exceed $115,000), and select an entity to evaluate the plan (not to exceed $50,000). The plan focuses on violence prevention, intervention, and reentry projects. Key programs include Fit2Lead (paid internship for at-risk youth), MDSO Turn Around Police Academy (TAP), MDSO Youth Outreach Unit (YOU) and Youth Athletic Initiative (YAMI), and the Safe in the 305 Grants Program which awards microgrants to community organizations. The County experienced a 41 percent decrease in gun-related homicides in calendar year 2024 compared to 2020. The plan aims to continue these efforts with a community-centered, youth-focused approach.
