Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners adopted Resolution R-545-26, approving the Peace & Prosperity Plan for Fiscal Year 2025-2026 with a total budget of $2,888,942.00. The plan allocates $2,800,000 from the Anti-Gun Violence and Prosperity Initiatives Trust Fund, plus $88,942.00 in carryover funds from previous fiscal years. The County Mayor or designee is authorized to expend these funds, select an organization to manage the Safe in the 305 Grants Program (not to exceed $115,000), and select an entity to evaluate the plan (not to exceed $50,000). The plan focuses on violence prevention, intervention, and reentry projects, with specific programming including the Fit2Lead program, MDSO Turn Around Police Academy (TAP), MDSO Youth Outreach Unit (YOU) and Youth Athletic Initiative (YAMI), and the Safe in the 305 Grants Program. The County experienced a 41 percent decrease in gun-related homicides in calendar year 2024 compared to 2020. The Safety and Health Committee amended the item to align with previous resolutions.
