RELATING TO THE INFILL HOUSING INITIATIVE PROGRAM

Board of County Commissioners · 2026-06-16 · ordinance

This ordinance amends Section 17-124 of the Miami-Dade County Code to limit extensions granted to developers under the Infill Housing Initiative Program. The program aims to increase affordable housing, redevelop urban neighborhoods, and generate ad valorem taxes. The amendment restricts developers to a maximum of two one-year extensions for property development, with a possibility for one additional extension in extraordinary circumstances (declared emergencies, natural disasters) upon a two-thirds vote. This change is intended to promote accountability, program efficiency, and expedite affordable housing production. The ordinance was amended by the Board of County Commissioners on June 16, 2026, after being deferred on June 2, 2026, and forwarded with a favorable recommendation from the Intergovernmental and Economic Impact Committee on May 13, 2026. Public comment was not recorded during the committee hearing.
