TRANSIT DEVELOPMENT PLAN MAJOR UPDATE

Board of County Commissioners · 2026-06-02 · resolution

Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners adopted the 2026 Transit Development Plan (TDP) Major Update, covering the 10-year period from FY 2026 through FY 2035. This plan, branded as MDT10Ahead, is a requirement for transit agencies receiving state funds and serves as a strategic guide for identifying and defining public transit needs. It establishes a 10-year strategic and financial framework for transit investment, explores the relationship between land use and transit, and documents anticipated future demand. The update includes detailed analysis of operating environments, public involvement, coordination with other plans, land use integration, demand estimation, and a 10-year implementation and financial plan. Public outreach included a survey with over 5,000 responses, pop-up events, social media efforts, analysis of 311 calls, and engagement with the Citizens' Independent Transportation Trust (CITT) and an Advisory Review Committee (ARC). The survey indicated general rider satisfaction and feelings of safety at stations, with opportunities for improvement in accessing stations and stops. The plan is expected to lead to ridership growth outpacing population growth, particularly among choice riders, with the development of additional premium transit corridors. Adoption of the TDP is a prerequisite for State Public Transit Block Grant funds.
