TRANSIT DEVELOPMENT PLAN MAJOR UPDATE

Board of County Commissioners · 2026-06-02 · resolution

Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners adopted a resolution approving the Miami-Dade Department of Transportation and Public Works' (DTPW) Major Update of the 2026 Transit Development Plan (TDP), covering the 10-year period from Fiscal Year 2026 through Fiscal Year 2035. This plan, branded as MDT10Ahead, is a requirement for transit agencies receiving state funds and serves as a strategic blueprint for meeting transportation needs. It identifies long-term transit infrastructure needs, establishes a 10-year strategic and financial framework for transit investment, explores the relationship between land use and transit, and documents anticipated future demand. The adoption is a prerequisite for State Public Transit Block Grant funds. Public involvement included a transit rider survey with over 5,000 responses, pop-up events, social media outreach, analysis of 311 calls, and the Citizens' Independent Transportation Trust (CITT) ambassador program. The survey indicated general rider satisfaction and a feeling of safety at stations, with opportunities to improve safety in accessing stations and stops. An Advisory Review Committee (ARC) with representatives from various entities also provided input. The plan forecasts ridership growth outpacing population growth with the development of additional premium transit corridors, particularly among choice riders. The plan is available on the County's website.
