2026 CHARTER AMENDMENT (CONSTITUTIONAL OFFICERS)

Board of County Commissioners · 2026-07-21 · resolution

Miami-Dade County is calling a countywide special election on November 3, 2026, to be held in conjunction with the general election. The purpose is to allow voters to decide on amending the Home Rule Charter. The proposed amendments address the reestablishment of elected County Constitutional Offices (Sheriff, Tax Collector, Property Appraiser, and Supervisor of Elections), clarify duties of the Clerk and County regarding finance and budget, and require County employees to take a leave of absence when running for an elected Constitutional Office. The resolution was introduced on July 14, 2026, and is scheduled for the Board of County Commissioners (BCC) agenda on July 21, 2026. The Charter Review Task Force recommended placing these changes before the electorate with a vote of ten in favor and zero against.
