BBEETF DISBURSEMENT OF $650K FOR MOORING BUOY PROGRAM

Miami-Dade County is authorizing the disbursement of up to $650,000.00 from the Biscayne Bay Environmental Enhancement Trust Fund for the installation, maintenance, and management of mooring buoys in the Miami-Dade County Mooring Buoy Program. The program, established in 2009 and expanded in 2023, protects natural and artificial reefs offshore in coastal waters. The funds will cover quarterly maintenance by a contractor, including repairs, replacement, or installation of anchors, hardware, lines, and buoys, as well as education and outreach. The Recreation, Tourism, and Resiliency Committee forwarded this item with a favorable recommendation to the Board of County Commissioners. The program's mooring buoys are located offshore of Commission Districts 4, 5, and 7. A previous disbursement of $350,000.00 in 2018 has been fully utilized.
