BBEETF DISBURSEMENT OF $650K FOR MOORING BUOY PROGRAM

Miami-Dade County is authorizing the disbursement of up to $650,000.00 from the Biscayne Bay Environmental Enhancement Trust Fund for the installation, maintenance, and management of mooring buoys within the Miami-Dade County Mooring Buoy Program. This program, established in 2009 and expanded in 2023, aims to protect natural and artificial reefs by providing designated mooring locations, thereby reducing anchor damage. The funds will cover quarterly contractor maintenance, including repairs and replacements of anchors, hardware, lines, and buoys, as well as DERM staff's interim inspections and public education outreach. The program's mooring buoys are located offshore in coastal waters, specifically noted as being offshore of Commission Districts 4, 5, and 7. A previous disbursement of $350,000.00 in 2018 has been fully utilized. The Recreation, Tourism, and Resiliency Committee forwarded this item with a favorable recommendation to the Board of County Commissioners (BCC).
