BBEETF DISBURSEMENT OF $650K FOR MOORING BUOY PROGRAM

Miami-Dade County is seeking authorization to disburse up to $650,000.00 from the Biscayne Bay Environmental Enhancement Trust Fund for the installation, maintenance, and management of mooring buoys within the Miami-Dade County Mooring Buoy Program. This program aims to protect natural and artificial reefs in coastal waters, specifically offshore of Commission Districts 4, 5, and 7. The work involves quarterly contractor maintenance, including repairs, replacement, or installation of anchors, hardware, lines, and buoys, as well as interim inspections by DERM staff. Education and outreach are also part of the program. A previous disbursement of $350,000.00 in 2018 for this program has been fully utilized. The Recreation, Tourism, and Resiliency Committee forwarded this item to the Board of County Commissioners (BCC) with a favorable recommendation. The BCC is scheduled to consider this item on July 21, 2026.
