BBEETF DISBURSEMENT OF $650K FOR MOORING BUOY PROGRAM

Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners is considering a resolution to authorize the disbursement of up to $650,000.00 from the Biscayne Bay Environmental Enhancement Trust Fund for the Miami-Dade County Mooring Buoy Program. This program involves the installation, maintenance, and management of mooring buoys in the coastal waters of Miami-Dade County, specifically offshore of Commission Districts 4, 5, and 7. The program, established in 2009 and expanded in 2023, aims to protect natural and artificial reefs from anchor damage and provide boating, fishing, and diving access. The work will be overseen by the Restoration and Enhancement Section of the Department of Environmental Resources Management (DERM). Quarterly contractor maintenance is required, along with interim inspections by DERM staff. Education and outreach are also part of the program. A previous disbursement of $350,000.00 in 2018 for this program has been fully utilized. The Recreation, Tourism, and Resiliency Committee forwarded this item to the Board with a favorable recommendation.
