CREATING MDC BOATER SAFETY, BAY EDUCATION ADVISORY BOARD

Miami-Dade County is creating the Boater Safety and Bay Education Advisory Board. This ordinance establishes the board, outlines its composition (nine voting members with expertise in boater safety, law enforcement, recreational and commercial boating industries, community vitality, environmental protection, and the general community), duties, and operational procedures. The board will make recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners and County Mayor on boater safety issues, track progress on existing recommendations, monitor emerging trends, and serve as a forum for public concerns. Members serve without compensation and must be Miami-Dade County residents and electors, with potential waivers. The board will meet quarterly or as needed and will provide annual reports. The creation of this board follows recommendations from a temporary task force established in April 2025, prompted by recent boating fatalities and injuries on Biscayne Bay.
