CREATING MDC BOATER SAFETY, BAY EDUCATION ADVISORY BOARD

Board of County Commissioners · 2026-07-21 · ordinance

Miami-Dade County is establishing the Boater Safety and Bay Education Advisory Board. This ordinance creates Article CLXXII of Chapter 2 of the Code of Miami-Dade County, Florida. The board will consist of nine voting members with expertise in boater safety, including representatives from law enforcement, the recreational and commercial boating industries, community leaders, and environmental protection. The board's duties include making recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners and County Mayor on boater safety issues, tracking progress on previous task force recommendations, and monitoring emergent safety trends. The board will meet quarterly or as needed and will serve without compensation. The ordinance was introduced on July 1, 2026, and an agenda date is set for July 21, 2026. The creation of this board follows recommendations from a temporary task force established in April 2025, prompted by recent boating fatalities and injuries on Biscayne Bay.
