CREATING MDC BOATER SAFETY, BAY EDUCATION ADVISORY BOARD

Miami-Dade County is creating the Boater Safety and Bay Education Advisory Board. This ordinance establishes the board, outlines its composition (nine voting members with expertise in boater safety, law enforcement, recreational and commercial boating industries, community vitality, environmental protection, and the general community), qualifications (residents with boater safety experience), and duties. The board will make recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners and County Mayor on boater safety issues, track progress on task force recommendations, monitor emergent issues, and consult with various governmental entities and organizations. The board members will serve without compensation. The ordinance was introduced on 7/1/2026 and is currently in the Recreation, Tourism, and Resiliency Committee, with a tentative public hearing scheduled for 7/21/2026. The creation of this board stems from a temporary task force established in April 2025, following boating-related fatalities and injuries on Biscayne Bay.
