CREATING MDC BOATER SAFETY, BAY EDUCATION ADVISORY BOARD
Board of County Commissioners · 2026-07-21 · ordinance
Miami-Dade County is creating the Boater Safety and Bay Education Advisory Board. This ordinance establishes the board, outlines its composition (nine voting members with expertise in boater safety, law enforcement, recreational and commercial boating industries, community/economic vitality, environmental protection, and the general community), duties, and operational procedures. The board will make recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners and County Mayor on boater safety issues, track progress on previous task force recommendations, monitor emergent issues, and serve as a public forum. Members serve without compensation and must be Miami-Dade County residents unless the residency requirement is waived. The board will hold quarterly meetings and report annually to the Board of County Commissioners. The creation of this board stems from recommendations made by a temporary Boater Safety and Bay Education Task Force established in April 2025, following boating-related fatalities and injuries on Biscayne Bay.
