DEMOLITION OF ARTHUR MAYS VILLAS PUBLIC HOUSING DEVELOPMENT

Board of County Commissioners · 2026-07-21 · resolution

Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners deferred a resolution authorizing the submission of a demolition application to HUD for a portion of the Arthur Mays Villas Public Housing Development. This portion consists of 147 units located within a single site bounded by SW 214th Street (north), SW 113th Avenue (east), SW 216th Street (south), and SW 114th Court (west). The resolution also authorizes the demolition of the development, subject to HUD approval, and the competitive selection and award of a demolition contract through the MCC 7360 Plan for up to $2,000,000.00. The project is being pursued due to high estimated rehabilitation costs ($35,689,450.00) exceeding HUD thresholds and unsafe structure violation notices. The Department of Housing and Community Development has conducted multiple resident meetings since 2018 and plans further outreach. Thirteen units are currently occupied and will be relocated upon HUD approval. The Housing Committee forwarded the item to the Board with a favorable recommendation.
