Establishment of the Downtown SoMi Community Development District (CDD) was considered. The CDD is generally bounded by Harriet Tubman Highway (US 1) to the north, SW 57 Avenue (Red Road) to the east, SW 72 Street (Sunset Drive) to the south, and SW 58 Avenue to the west. The project involves a 10.16-acre mixed-use development including approximately 202,462 sq ft of retail space, 1,513 residential units, 287 hotel rooms, 2,786 parking spaces, 65,892 sq ft of office space, a 1,300-seat movie theater, roadway improvements, stormwater management, wastewater collection, and water distribution systems, with an estimated cost of $149M. The Board of County Commissioners adopted the ordinance on first reading on 4/21/2026. The matter was deferred by Commissioner Regalado to the July 21, 2026 Board of County Commissioners meeting.
