An ordinance is in draft to change the municipal boundaries of the City of Florida City, Florida, by annexing unincorporated land referred to as Area J. The annexation area is legally described as the West 1/2 of Section 23 and the East 1/2 of the Southeast 1/4 of Section 22, both in Township 57 South, Range 38 East. The outer boundaries are approximately SW 328th Street (North), SW 192nd Avenue (East), SW 344th Street (South), and SW 199th Avenue (West). The ordinance includes conditions for the reservation of utility tax revenues and residential garbage/refuse collection and disposal to the County, retention of County jurisdiction over restrictive covenants and areas of countywide significance (including a wellfield protection area, Rock Pit #39 Preserve, and a natural forest community), and a requirement for the City to pay outstanding stormwater bond debt service payments totaling $1,709.71. The ordinance is contingent upon the execution of an interlocal agreement between the City and the County and will become effective upon the later of 10 days after enactment or the execution of the interlocal agreement, provided these conditions are met within 180 days.
