FLORIDA CITY ANNEXATION AREA J

Board of County Commissioners · 2026-07-21 · ordinance

This ordinance proposes the annexation of an unincorporated area known as Area J into the City of Florida City. The annexation area is legally described as the West 1/2 of Section 23 and the East 1/2 of the Southeast 1/4 of Section 22, both in Township 57 South, Range 38 East. The approximate outer boundaries are SW 328th Street (North), SW 192nd Avenue (East), SW 344th Street (South), and SW 199th Avenue (West). Key conditions include the County retaining utility tax revenues and jurisdiction over residential garbage and refuse collection/disposal, unless delegated via a 20-year interlocal agreement. The County will also retain jurisdiction over certain restrictive covenants and areas/facilities of countywide significance, including a wellfield protection area, a rock pit preserve (folio 30-7823-002-0010), and a natural forest community. The City of Florida City will be required to pay outstanding stormwater bond debt service payments totaling $1,709.71. The ordinance is currently in committee, with a tentative public hearing scheduled for July 21, 2026. The ordinance's effectiveness is contingent upon the execution of an interlocal agreement between the City and the County.
