PILOT PROGRAM - SALE OF FATS, OILS, AND GREASE (FOG)

Board of County Commissioners · 2026-07-21 · resolution

Miami-Dade County is exploring a pilot program for the sale of Fats, Oils, and Grease (FOG) for reuse as biofuel or other purposes. The program aims to facilitate and collect data on FOG sales from local businesses, provide expedited regulatory approvals, and offer technical assistance. The County Mayor or designee is directed to prepare the pilot program for Board review and approval, including a report within 90 days of the resolution's effective date. This initiative stems from previous efforts to comply with a Consent Decree related to sanitary sewer overflows and amendments to the Grease Trap Ordinance and FOG Control Program. The goal is to explore options for businesses to finance FOG-related investments by selling FOG instead of disposing of it as waste. Input from the EPA and FDEP will be sought for any necessary regulatory amendments.
