Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners is approving the award of Contract No. EVN0013501, for Quicklime, to Carmeuse Lime & Stone, Inc. The contract is for a five-year term with a total amount of $124,080,000.00 for the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department (WASD). This quicklime is a critical chemical used in water treatment operations at three regional water treatment plants: John E. Preston, Hialeah, and Alexander Orr. The contract ensures a reliable supply of approximately 42,000 tons of quicklime annually, necessary for water softening, pH adjustment, alkalinity control, and regulatory compliance. The solicitation process involved full and open competition, resulting in two bids, with Carmeuse Lime & Stone, Inc. being the lowest responsive and responsible bidder. The quicklime must meet stringent quality and regulatory requirements, including specific calcium oxide concentration and certifications for potable water treatment. The Board is authorizing the County Mayor or designee to issue purchase orders and exercise contract provisions.
