QUICKLIME

Board of County Commissioners · 2026-07-21 · resolution

Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners is approving the award of Contract No. EVN0013501, "QUICKLIME," to Carmeuse Lime & Stone, Inc. for the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department. The contract is for a five-year term with a total amount of $124,080,000.00. This contract will ensure a reliable supply of quicklime, a critical chemical used in water treatment for softening, pH adjustment, and alkalinity control, supporting the operation of three regional water treatment plants. The contract replaces a previous one and reflects updated unit pricing due to current market conditions. The procurement process involved an Invitation to Bid where two bids were received, and Carmeuse Lime & Stone, Inc. was the lowest responsive and responsible bidder. No certified Small Business Enterprise (SBE) firms were able to meet the solicitation requirements. The quicklime must meet stringent quality and regulatory requirements, including specific calcium oxide concentration and NSF/ANSI Standard 60 certification for drinking water treatment chemicals.
