REIMBURSEMENT FOR DISCONTINUED I-95 EXPRESS ROUTES
Board of County Commissioners · 2026-07-21 · resolution
Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners (BCC) is considering a resolution to authorize the use of $3,896,702.00 from the Charter County Transportation Surtax Bond Program. These funds will reimburse the Miami-Dade Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) operating fund for a payment made to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). The payment covers the depreciated value and unauthorized mileage associated with 15 buses originally purchased for the discontinued I-95 Express Bus Service routes. The buses were redeployed to other routes after the service was discontinued in March 2020 due to decreased ridership and bus operator shortages. This redeployment was inconsistent with FDOT grant requirements. The item was introduced on 6/8/2026 and an agenda date of 7/21/2026 was set. A deferral to September 1, 2026, was requested by Administration. The Transportation Committee forwarded the item to the BCC with a favorable recommendation on 6/9/2026. The total FDOT reimbursement request is $9,658,133.83 for 28 buses, with this item addressing a portion of that amount related to 15 buses funded under Grant G0350.
