REIMBURSEMENT FOR DISCONTINUED I-95 EXPRESS ROUTES

Board of County Commissioners · 2026-07-21 · resolution

Miami-Dade County is seeking to authorize the use of $3,896,702.00 from the Charter County Transportation Surtax Bond Program to reimburse the Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) operating fund. This reimbursement is for a payment made to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) concerning the depreciated value and unauthorized mileage of 15 buses originally purchased for the discontinued I-95 Express Bus Service routes. The buses were redeployed to other routes after the service was discontinued in March 2020 due to decreased ridership and bus operator shortages. The use of these funds is part of the FY 2026-30 Five-Year Implementation Plan of the People’s Transportation Plan. The matter was introduced on 6/8/2026, with an agenda date of 7/21/2026. A deferral was requested on 7/16/2026 to the September 1, 2026 Board of County Commissioners Meeting. The Transportation Committee forwarded the item to the BCC with a favorable recommendation on 6/9/2026. The total FDOT reimbursement request for 28 buses is $9,658,133.83, with this item specifically addressing $3,896,702 for 15 buses funded under Grant G0350.
