REIMBURSEMENT FOR DISCONTINUED I-95 EXPRESS ROUTES

Miami-Dade County is seeking approval to use $3,896,702.00 from the Charter County Transportation Surtax Bond Program to reimburse the Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) operating fund. This reimbursement is for a payment made to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) concerning the depreciated value and unauthorized mileage of 15 buses originally purchased for the discontinued I-95 Express Bus Service routes. The buses were redeployed to other routes after the service was discontinued in March 2020 due to decreased ridership and bus operator shortages. This redeployment violated FDOT grant requirements. The project was added to the FY 2026-30 Five-Year Implementation Plan of the People's Transportation Plan. The item was deferred by the Office of the Chairperson on 7/16/2026 and forwarded with a favorable recommendation by the Transportation Committee on 6/9/2026. The Citizens' Independent Transportation Trust (CITT) review is required.
