Miami-Dade County is holding a countywide special election on November 3, 2026, to vote on amending the Home Rule Charter. The proposed amendment, initiated by Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins, would increase the residency requirement for candidates running for County Commissioner from six months to 365 days (one year) prior to the start of the qualifying period. This measure was recommended by the Charter Review Task Force. The resolution was forwarded to the Board of County Commissioners (BCC) with a favorable recommendation after a minor scrivener's error correction.
