RESOLUTION CALLING A COUNTYWIDE SPECIAL ELECTION

Board of County Commissioners · 2026-07-21 · resolution

Miami-Dade County is holding a countywide special election on November 3, 2026, to amend the Home Rule Charter. The proposed amendment, sponsored by Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins, will ask voters whether to increase the residency requirement for County Commissioner candidates from six months to 365 days (one year) prior to the start of the qualifying period. The resolution was forwarded to the Board of County Commissioners with a favorable recommendation after a scrivener's error correction. The Charter Review Task Force recommended this change with a vote of ten in favor and none against. The election will be held in conjunction with the general election.
