Miami-Dade County is holding a countywide special election on November 3, 2026, to vote on amending the Home Rule Charter. The proposed amendment would increase the residency requirement for candidates running for County Commissioner from six months to 365 days (one year) prior to the start of the qualifying period. The resolution was sponsored by Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins. The Policy Council forwarded the resolution with a favorable recommendation after correcting a scrivener's error regarding a previous resolution number. The Board of County Commissioners is the acting body.
