RESOLUTION CALLING A COUNTYWIDE SPECIAL ELECTION
Board of County Commissioners · 2026-07-21 · resolution
Miami-Dade County is holding a countywide special election on November 3, 2026, to vote on amending the Home Rule Charter. The proposed amendment, sponsored by Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins, would increase the residency requirement for candidates running for County Commissioner to 365 days within their district prior to the start of the qualifying period, up from the current six months. The resolution was forwarded to the Board of County Commissioners (BCC) with a favorable recommendation after a scrivener's error correction. The Policy Council forwarded the resolution to the BCC on July 14, 2026, and the BCC agenda date is July 21, 2026. The Charter Review Task Force recommended this change by a vote of ten to none.
