RESOLUTION CALLING A COUNTYWIDE SPECIAL ELECTION
Board of County Commissioners · 2026-07-21 · resolution
Miami-Dade County is holding a countywide special election on November 3, 2026, to amend the Home Rule Charter. The proposed amendment, which will be on the ballot, seeks to increase the residency requirement for candidates running for County Commissioner from six months to 365 days (one year) prior to the start of the qualifying period. This matter was introduced on June 26, 2026, and is scheduled for the Board of County Commissioners (BCC) agenda on July 21, 2026, under item 11A15. The Policy Council forwarded the resolution to the BCC with a favorable recommendation on July 13, 2026, after correcting a scrivener's error. Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins is the prime sponsor. The Charter Review Task Force recommended this change by a vote of ten to none.
