Miami-Dade County is calling a countywide special election on November 3, 2026, to amend the Home Rule Charter. The proposed amendments concern the process for calling elections to fill commission vacancies and establish minimum standards for municipal qualifying dates. The Charter Review Task Force recommended these changes, which aim to allow the Board to align special elections with other scheduled elections when vacancies are caused by resignations to run for other offices, and to provide greater opportunity for municipal elections to be synced up. The resolution was sponsored by Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins.
